Austin likes to “keep it weird,” but there are also a lot of ways to “keep it healthy.” Here are our dietitians’ favorite resources and places in Austin, Texas that support a healthy lifestyle.

Get Active in Austin, Texas

Zilker Park

There is so much to do in this 350-acre park. There’s a playscape, a disc golf course, volleyball courts, and more. It’s a fantastic, active weekend destination for the entire family.

Walnut Creek Park

Brittany and her pup, Stanley, can spend hours hiking in the leash-free trails in the northeast Walnut Creek Park area. BJ and her husband have been using the bike trails here for years.

Barton Springs Pool

In the dog days of summer, when municipal and neighborhood pools reach tepid temperatures, the water in Barton Springs Pool maintains a chilly 68 to 71 degrees Fahrenheit.

McKinney Falls State Park

A beautiful slice of nature just outside the city. You can fill a day with hiking, swimming, and picnicking, or bring your camping gear and make it a weekend trip.

Mount Bonnell

The peak, 775 feet above sea level, has the best view in town. Getting to the top is a workout, but totally doable and always worth the 102-stair climb.

Mayfield Park and Preserve

This shady haven has 1 mile of easy trails. The wandering peacocks will delight your children.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Memberships

CSA members pay in advance for a share of the upcoming harvest of a local farm, which is then delivered to members’ homes, offices, and community pick-up locations. It’s a fun way to support local agriculture and get exposed to a large variety of produce.

Stay tuned to this space! We’ll be adding more resources over the next few weeks.
